Re: roll& tip painting a aluminum lapstreak boat i agree with jda. i tried the roll and roll and it did not feel very comfortable at all. i also found that the roller and brush technique worked best for me.. Never painted a boat before but i am a painter by trade and when i paint steel doors i always use a 1/4 mohair roller. it lays the paint down good and dries smooth. if you buy the more expensive mohair rollers you get no fibers in the paint.. If using the aluminum boat paint green or aluma hawk (available in black, jon boat green, blue, sand or aluminum grey), these serve as paint and primer in one. for more application details see our ‘ how to paint an aluminum jon boat’ article..
Spray painting is the right choice, but you can use a roller or a brush if you want. use only water resistant varieties. firstly, apply the paint on the inside part of the boat, let it dry, and then apply the paint coat on the exterior portions.. Painting a new, unpainted aluminum boat, like any other paint job, may seem like it's more about the surface preparation -- degreasing and sanding so the primer coat will stick to the metal and applying the primer immediately to prevent the aluminum's oxidation.. How to paint a boat. you want to take off as much as possible, down to any aluminum window siding. this could cause a crease between the hardware and the paint, which will allow water to get into the cracks and ruin the paint. paint the boat using a roller and brush..
